Abstract

The reading skill of Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI) Porong needed improvements. Based on the teacher experience and the results of preliminary study, it revealed that the students were difficult on reading, because they felt bored and uninterested to learn it. To solve the problem, the teacher had implemented picture series to teach reading. But, the result just 5% of the students reached standard criteria of success. The objective of this research was to know how to improve the reading skill through Quipper School of Senior High School Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI) Porong. This research was classified as Classroom Action Research (CAR) of Kemmis Tanggart (1998). It consist of four stages, they are planning the action, implementing the action, observing and reflecting. There were two cycles in this research, in each cycle consisted of two meetings. In planning, the researcher and collaborator prepared the lesson plan based on the observation in preliminary study, which refers to the problem found inside it. Next, acting the researcher as a practitioner who carried out the lesson plan of teaching reading and implement Quipper School in the class, while the collaborator had role as an observer. Then, observing was the process of recording and gathering data about any aspects or event that happened in the teaching and learning process during the implementation of the action. The last reflecting, in this phase the researcher analyzed data compare the criteria of success and the data or evidence exist. The criteria of success was equal to or higher than 80% and the Standard Minimum Score (KKM) was 70. The subjects of this research were 20 students class X of Senior High School Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI) Porong. The data collection techniques were a combination of qualitative methods (Observation) and quantitative methods (Preliminary Test and Post Test). After conducting cycle two, the result of this study using Quipper School Media indicated the fact that students were success in reading improvement. In preliminary study students who passed Standard Minimum Score (KKM) were 5%. In cycle one students who passed Standard Minimum Score (KKM) were 35%. The last, in cycle two the students who passed Standard Minimum Score (KKM) were 95%. The improvement percentage score from preliminary test to cycle two were 90%. Therefore, it can be concluded that teaching reading descriptive text by using Quipper School Media can improve Senior High School Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI) Porong students reading ability.The reading skill of Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI) Porong needed improvements.
