Abstract

Motivation is one of the most important factors that influence English learning. Paying attention to students’ motivation will influence teacher’s role in the class. The teacher's role in the class is not only teaching, but also monitoring and motivating the students in relation with their performance in the class. Motivated learners will be easy to improve their learning and learning outcomes. This research focuses questions on us follows: 1) What are the strategies employed by the English teacher's in increasing students motivation in learning English of the seventh grade at MTs Nurul Jadid? 2) How the student’s opinion about awareness strategies teacher used to improve their learning motivation to the seventh grade at MTs Nurul Jadid? The objective of this research are: 1) to describe the English teacher’s strategies in increasing the students motivation in English learning. 2) to describe the student’s opinion about awareness strategies teacher used to improve their learning motivation of the seventh grade at MTs Nurul Jadid. To identify that problems, this research used qualitative research with descriptive approach used classroom observation and interview to collect the data. Result showed that strategies often used in classroom are giving value, reward, competition, gave task, showing results of learning, positive feedback, and positive reinforcement. During interview, teacher stated their awareness the importance of this strategies to motivates their students. Students in classroom also agree that they were motivated when teachers gave them value, reward, competition, gave task, showed results of learning, positive feedback, and positive reinforcement.
