In the context of speaking English, being able to talk to friends or even talking to foreigners in their language, is certainly the goal of many English learners. However, biggest problem that students face is speaking in it. There needs to be a factor that can drive students to be able to master it. It can be assumed that motivation in learning English have a relationship with the students speaking skills.
This study aims to determine whether there is a correlation between English learning motivation and students speaking ability. With the research question "Is there any significant relationship between the motivation to learn English of the second graders students of SMPN 1 Ajung with their speaking ability?".
It used a quantitative method in correlational research design as well as through statistical tests of IBM SPSS 20 application with the Spearman-rank Correlation for the abnormally data distributed. After testing both variables, apparently, the results obtained are there is no relationship between English learning motivation and students speaking ability. The result of the inferential statistical analysis shows that the result of the Spearman-rank Correlation test is valued as much as Sig = 0.224 < 0.05 (there is no correlation) with a correlation coefficient of 0.167.
Based on the research data analysis results, it can be marked that there is no significant correlation between learning motivation and the speaking ability of second-grade students of SMPN 1 Ajung. Eventually, the results of the correlation test between learning motivation and students' speaking ability show that students' speaking ability is not fully influenced by motivation in learning English.
