Abstract

This role playing can increase students learning motivation in learning English. The implementation of role playing can be based on the consideration that this implementation is a combined implementation which includes activities
that actively involve students during class learning.
The focus in this research is: 1) How does the implementation of role play
increase the student motivation intrinsic in learning English? 2) How does the implementation of role play increase the student motivation extrinsic in learning English? The purpose of this research is: 1) Describe the implementation of role play to increase the student motivation instrinsic in learning English. 2) Describe the implementation of role play to increase the student motivation extrinsic in learning English.
This research method used a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive type of research and the selection of research subjects used a purposive technique which is technically selected with certain considerations and objectives. Collection techniques: the data used are interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis model used is the Miles and Huberman model. The steps include: Condensing the data, presenting the data, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data uses the credibility of the data, namely: source triangulation and technical triangulation.
The result of this study: 1) The teacher could increase the students’ extrinsic motivation in learning by role playing. The students looked enthusiastic. 2) The teacher prepared role play strategy before teaching which involves. a) preparing lesson plans b) preparing ice breaking c) preparing team and dialogue for students d) preparing rewards for students. 3) The implementation of role play in the class, namely: a) Groups in student b) Memorizing the script c) Presenting the role play.
