Abstract

Keywords: Teaching Pronunciation, Movie. Pronunciation is one of important aspect of speaking skill for students at universities. However, students have low interest in learning pronunciation. This case happens because the tutor used old strategy and it makes the learning process feels boring. Therefore, the tutor choose movie as the strategy in teaching pronunciation to make students have good interest at pronunciation material. Therefore, the researcher was interested in conducting her research at Mahad Al Jamiah IAIN Jember. The research questions in this research are: 1) What are the materials in teaching students pronunciation through a movie at Mahad al Jamiah IAIN Jember?, 2) What are the goals in teaching pronunciation through a movie at Mahad Al Jamiah IAIN Jember?, 3) How does the tutor implement the movie in the teaching pronunciation at Mahad Al Jamiah IAIN Jember?, 4) How does the tutor evaluate the students in teaching pronunciation through a movie at Mahad Al Jamiah IAIN Jember? The purposes of this research are: 1) To describe the materials in teaching pronunciation through a movie at Mahad al Jamiah IAIN Jember, 2) To identify the purposes in teaching pronunciation through a movie at Mahad al Jamiah IAIN Jember, 3) To describe the implementation in teaching pronunciation through a movie at Mahad al Jamiah IAIN Jember, 4) To identify the way how the tutor evaluate the students in teaching pronunciation through a movie at Mahad Al Jamiah IAIN Jember. This research used descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data collection methods used were observation, interview, and document review. To analyze data analysis, the researcher used Miles Huberman and Saldana theory which consists of three steps: data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. While for the validation of data is triangulation of technique and sources. These research findings were: 1.) The materials were modelling and imitating. 2.) The goals were: students speak English fluently and have a good pronunciation, students were interested in learning pronunciation with a movie, students were also easier to imitate the words from the movie that they had already watched. 3.) The implementation in teaching pronunciation through movie were as follows: First, the tutor explained about the material and shared the movie that they have already watched. Second, after the students watched the movie, the tutor gave 10 words to practice these words for about 15 minutes. Third, the tutor gave a chance for the students to ask the material that they did not understand. Fourth, the tutor gave 15 words, 5 phrases, and 5 clauses for the quiz and gave them 15 minutes. The last, the tutor started the quiz. 4.) The evaluation of teaching pronunciation through movie of English class at Mahad Al Jamiah IAIN Jember was the tutor assessed the students with Formative assessment that was doing a quiz (oral test).
