Abstract

Ismi Durrotul Mamlu’ah, 2023: “The Implementation of Teaching Speaking Skills through Group Investigation Technique in the Second Grade of Al-Barokah Islamic Senior High School at Padasan Pujer Bondowoso”

Today, English is the most important language to learn, especially for students. As a language, speaking English represents the most important skill to prove because it is complicated to learn and teach. Some students believe that learning English will be a challenging task for them. As a result, it is necessary to devise an effective technique for teaching English-speaking skills. Al-Barokah Islamic Senior High School, particularly the second grade, has implemented Group Investigation Technique and discovered that it assisted the teacher in teaching speaking skills for such a grade.
The focus of this research are as follows: 1) What are the steps for teaching speaking skills through GI in the second grade of Al-Barokah Islamic Senior High School? 2) How is the evaluation of teaching speaking skills through GI in the second grade of Al-Barokah Islamic Senior High School?
The qualitative research method was used in this study, and the descriptive study was used as the research design. The subjects of this study were 14schoolgirls and an English teacher, who were identified and recruited using purposive sampling by the researcher. This study's data collection methods included observation, interviews, and document review. After that, the researcher analyzed it using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, which included data condensation, data display, and drawing and verifying conclusions. This study's data validity relied on a triangulation source and technique.
The findings of this research were: 1) The steps of teaching speaking skills through GI were: a) divide students into three groups, b) engage students to identify the topic, c) ask students to discuss and plan the investigation process, d) write and prepare investigation report, and e) each group present the findings. 2) The evaluation of teaching speaking skills through GI was practice test refers to students’ interview and presentation based on scoring rubric with 5 aspects (comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency).
