Abstract

In teaching and learning activities in the classroom, teachers can use
various ways or strategies in teaching to make it easier for their students to
understand all the material that the teacher explains. Especially in narrative text
material which requires students to understand the contents of the story or text
presented. One strategy used is to use the image method. The activity of
displaying pictures carried out by the teacher so far tends to make students bored
because there is no space for students to actively imagine about the contents of the
text they are reading. In this thesis the researcher uses methods or strategies that
can make students more active in their reading activities.
The focus of research in this undergraduate thesis are: Is there any effect
of using visualization images strategy on students' narrative text comprehension of
10th grade at MAN 2 Situbondo? The purpose of this study was to measure the
level of effectiveness of using the image visualization method in students' reading
comprehension especially in narrative text material.
This research is a quantitative research and conducted by using Quasi-
Experimental (Nonequivalent Comparison Group Design) and there are two
research classes, namely the control class and also the experimental class. The
data collection technique used in this study was the pretest and posttest which
were carried out in both classes.
This study came to the conclusion that there were no results for the
learning outcomes of students who were taught using the image visualization
strategy method. there are no results in this method is also influenced by many
factors that can influence the success of a learning method in the classroom. These
factors include psychological, environmental, and also educational support
facilities. It is proven that the posttest results in both classes were 70.00 for the
experimental class and 71.25 for the control class. And also this attribute is
proven by the results of the Independent Sample T-test using SPSS version 24 for
Windows and the result is 0.77. This statement is in accordance with the basis for
decision making in the independent sample t test where if the value of Sig. (2-
tailed) > 0.05, then Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected, which means that there is
no difference in the reading comprehension ability of students who use the image
visualization strategy on narrative text at MAN 2 Situbondo.
