Abstract

Keywords: Bilingual Program, Students’ Motivation in Memorizing English Vocabulary
English vocabulary is the most important language components in learning English. But in fact, this is not easy for second language (ESL) or foreign language (EFL) learners. Schools have their own way to improve their students’ English skills. One of the strategies employed by the school is the implementation of Bilingual Program, especially in SMP Plus Darus Sholah Jember. In that school, Bilingual Program is a program that covers the learners who learn English and also Arabic. Therefore, this research tried to examine the effect of Bilingual Program on students’ motivation in memorizing English vocabulary. The research problem was formulated as “is there any effect of Bilingual Program on students’ motivation in memorizing English vocabulary at seventh grade SMP Plus Darus Sholah Jember?” This research aimed to examine whether or not the effect of of Bilingual Program on students’ motivation in memorizing English vocabulary at seventh grade SMP Plus Darus Sholah Jember.
This research employed quantitative approach with causal-comparative or ex post facto design (non-experimental study). The research subject included VII C and VII D class of Bilingual Program which consisted 58 students. The technique of collecting data was documentation and questionnaire. The instrument testing used validity test and reliability test. Then, the data was analyzed by Simple Linear Regression formula using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. Before the data was analyzed, a normality test and linearity test had been conducted. Because, the required Simple Linear Regression of the test was the data must be valid and reliable, normal and linear. The result showed that the significance value of Simple Linear Regression test was 0,008. Because 0,008 is less than 0,05, so the Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. Also the R square of Model Summary of Simple Linear Regression was 0,118 which categorized as modest fit. It means that the Bilingual Program has an effect of 11,8% on students’ motivation in memorizing English vocabulary at seventh grade SMP Plus Darus Sholah Jember in 2022/2023 academic year.
