Miftahul Jannah, 2023. The Implementation of Fishbowl Strategy to Improve Students’ Speaking Skill at the Eighth Grade of Darus Sholah Junior High School Plus Jember in the Academic Year 2022/2023.

Key Words: Fishbowl Strategy, Speaking Skill

Speaking is one of the basic language skills that must be taught in English, in addition to listening, writing, and reading. Speaking must be mastered in order to communicate orally. However, the students faced some problems in speaking, one of them was the students lack of courage that make them embarrassed to speak in front of their friends. Therefore, the English teacher used fishbowl strategy in teaching and learning speaking at the eighth grade of Junior High School Plus Darus Sholah Jember as the effort to speak English.
The focus of this research is how does the implementation of fishbowl strategy improve students’ speaking skill at the eighth grade students of Darus Sholah Junior High School Plus Jember in 2022/2023 academic year?. The objective of this research is to examine the implementation of the fishbowl strategy to improve students’ speaking skills at the eighth grade of Darus Sholah Junior High School Plus Jember.
This research was conducted at class VIII E of Darus Sholah Junior High School Plus Jember. This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) using Kemish and Mc Taggart model which consisted of four steps, namely planning the action, implementing the action, observing and reflecting. The data were gathered from speaking test as primary data. For secondary data were gathered from observation, interview and document review. The researcher has criteria used in the success which is 75% of students have to reach the target score that was 75.
The result of this research showed that there was improvement of the students’ speaking skill. It could be seen from the result of the post-test I and II that had been improved. The average score of the pre-test was 69,2 and the percentage who achieved the minimum score was 41% (14 of 34 students). In post-test I the average score was 71,7 and the percentage who achieved the minimum score was 61,7% (21 of 34 students). Then, in post-test II, the average score was 80 and the percentage who achieved the minimum score was 82,3% (28 of 34 students). It can be concluded that Fishbowl Strategy can improve students’ speaking skill.
