Abstract
The importance of English language encourages students to learn it. In
learning language there are many aspects that must be mastered. One of the
language aspects that should be mastered is vocabulary. By mastering vocabulary,
students are able to develop all of language aspects. In reality, many students do
not enjoy learning language, they are lazy to master vocabulary because they feel
English is difficult subject. Eighth grader students of MTs Wahid Hasyim Balung
are students who have same problem. Therefore, creativity and innovation of the
teacher is needed in choosing learning strategy. There are so many strategies that
can be implemented by teacher, among them is game strategy. In this research the
researcher implemented Anagram Game to solve students’ problem.
In this research, the researcher formulated the research problem as follows:
1) Do the students who are taught by online anagram games got better vocabulary
mastery than those who are taught by other learning strategies? 2) Is there any
significant effect of online anagram game on student’s vocabulary mastery? To
answer the formulation of the problem, it examines formulating research objective
as follows: 1) To find out students who are taught by online anagram games got
better vocabulary mastery than those who are taught by other learning strategies;
2) To measure whether or not there is a significant effect of using an online
anagram game on students’ vocabulary mastery.
This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a quasi-
experimental design. The population of this research consisted of four classes, then
the researcher chose two classes as the research samples. Both classes are given
different treatments, where the first class is an experimental class is given online
anagram game strategy treatment and the second is given other treatments. Pre
Test and Post Test are given as research instrument. For analysis of the data,
independent sample T-test and paired sample T-test has been used.
The finding of the discussion obtained from the data analysis using the
sample T-test show that the online anagram was effective in triggering producing
new vocabulary that student got. This is shown from the calculation results
through the independent sample T-test answer the first research question with
result the value of significance 2 tailed 0.00<0.05 and paired sample T-test answer
the second research question with result the value of significance 2 tailed
0.00<0.05
