Nurmala Cahya Putri, 2023 : The use of Scattergories Card Game to Improve Students Vocabulary in Learning English at Eighth Grade of MTS Maftahul Huda Kertonegoro.

The students of the eighth grade had problem in vocabulary. The students were not really interested in learning English, because the teacher still used a traditional technique. He just gave assignment without explaning the material before. The students were lack vocabulary. The researcher chose to use a distributed game to improve students’ vocabulary because, it is a creative technique that a teacher can use and it make the students happy and spirit in learning process. Therefore, this research used Scattergories card game to challenge the students to think quickly. The game did not only enrich the students’ vocabulary, but also encourage them to think fast.
The research question of this research was “How can scattergories card game improve students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade of Mts Maftahul Huda Kertonegoro?” This research aimed to improve students’ vocabulary through scattergories card game at the eighth grade of Mts Maftahul Huda Kertonegoro.
The research used Clasroom Action Research (CAR). The participant of this research were the students of 8B in Mts Maftahul Huda Kertonegoro, which consists of 22 students. The research was carried out in two cycles which consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Collecting data in this research used vocabulary test, observation sheet and interview. The indicator of success in this research average that 70% of students got minimally 75 as scores.
Based on the students’ score, it could be seen that the cycle one had not reached the minimum score. There were only 13 the students could get the minimum score. It means, that cycle one was not successful. Therefore, the researcher conducted the cycle two. The result of the students’ vocabulary score was 80,27 including 18 students or 81% of students passed the indicator of success, it could be said that cycle 2 was successful. Based on the result of this research, the researcher concluded that the implementation of using scattergories card game could improve of students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher provided the suggestion of this research for the English teacher that this strategy could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. Moreover for the future researcher, this research could be as a reference or develop this research.
