Abstract

ABSTRACT
Anissatul Hikmah, 2023: The Use of English Novel Books Application
To Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension At Junior High School 1 Panti.
Reading improves students’ vocabulary, knowledge, their ability to
pronounce words correctly, and their comprehension of the information. Based on
preliminary observation through there was the fact that the students experienced
difficulty in reading, they thought that reading was a boring activity. The other
students had low comprehension in reading. The researcher proposed English
Novel Books Application as an appropriate media. It was chosen because it is
suitable with the aspects and strategy that were being improved.
Based on the research background above, the problem formulated as “How
teacher improves student’s reading comprehension using English Novel Books
Application at Junior High School 1 Panti”. In accordance with the background
and research problem above, the objective of this research was to examine the improvement students reading comprehension using English Novel Book
Application at Junior High School 1 Panti.
This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) adopted from
Kemmis and Mc Taggart. The classroom action research design in this research
was collaborative classroom action research. The participants of this research
were the Ninth-graders of SMPN 1 Panti in the school year 2023/ 2024. This
research was conducted in one cycle comprised 3 meetings and 1 test. The
researcher used a reading test as the primary data to collect students’ reading
scores, interview, and classroom observation as the secondary data from enriching
the data collection from students.
Based on the research finding obtained. This study revealed. The
preliminary data showed that the students’ mean score reached 61,2 and the
percentage score that reached KKM was 10%, which means that only 3 students
out of 30 students could pass the KKM. After implementing there were 28
students out of 30 students who passed the KKM with mean score was 83,5 and a
percentage 93,3 and only 2 students were under KKM. This means that this
research was highly successful. Thus, the criteria of success have already
implemented in one cycle. The English Novel Books Applications could help
students to organized information of the text and make the students easier to get a
better understanding of the main idea and supporting detail of the reading text.
Based on the interview and observation result known that the students’ reading
comprehension was successfully improved by using English Novel Books
Application and also it assisted the teacher in the finding the appropriate media in
teaching reading.
