One important component in learning English is expanding one's vocabulary. It is described as a collection of all the words a person knows or all the words they might use when constructing a sentence. Learning vocabulary cannot be separated from language learning because vocabulary is an important component of language proficiency. That is why teaching vocabulary is not easy to do, it requires the right ways to implement, one of them is using a strategy to make the learning process more interesting and engaging exciting. This research focuses on discussing vocabulary teaching in recount text using the mind mapping technique.
This research focuses on: How is the implementation and the students' response on mind mapping technique to teach students' vocabulary in recount text at eighth grade of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 2 Kraton Pasuruan? This research aimed: To describe the implementation and the students’ response on mind mapping technique to teach students’ vocabulary in recount rext at eighth grade of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 2 Kraton Pasuruan.
This research used descriptive research with a qualitative approach. This research was categorized as qualitative descriptive. Data collection technique included observation, interview and documentation. To analyze the collected data, the researcher used Miles Huberman and Saldana's theory which includes: data collection, data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. To validate the data, the researcher used source triangulation and technical triangulation.
This research result showed that: 1) The implementation of mind mapping technique to teach students’ vocabulary in recount text at eighth grade of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 2 Kraton Pasuruan included: the goal, the material, the method, the procedure. The goal of teaching vocabulary were divided into two namely general goal which refered to the goal of strategy and specific goal which refered to the goal of material. The material was recount text, Recount text here was personal recount. The method used by the teacher is mind mapping. The procedure implementing of mind mapping technique to teach students’ vocabulary in recount text included: preliminary activity were: greeting and conveying learning objectives, core activity were: the teacher asks students to watch a video showing about recount text then the teacher asks students to make mind mapping to write recount text about personal recount based on the correct generic structure in groups after that the teacher asks representatives of the group members to come forward and present the results of the work they have done with their group and closing activity were: the students ask questions and answer about the material and the teacher summarizes the material they have learned, and the last is praying together. 2) The students' response on mind mapping technique to teach students' vocabulary in recount text at eighth grade of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 2 Kraton Pasuruan were: a) saving time b) focusing on learning c) learning more quickly.
