Abstract

Writing as a productive language skill plays an essential role in promoting
language acquisition as learners experiment with words, sentences, and large
chunks of writing to communicate effectively and also to reinforce the grammar
and vocabulary that they learn in the class. One of genres in writing that taught for
the Thai students was greeting card. Greeting card is piece of card stock, usually
with an illustration or photo, made of high-quality paper featuring an expression
of friendship or other sentiment.
There were two research questions in this research, those were: (1) How is
the student's ability in writing the greeting card of Thai Student? and (2) What
challenges did Thai student‟s need in developing their writing ability? The
objectives of this research were: 1) To find out the student's ability in writing the
greeting card of Thai students and 2) To find out the challenges did Thai student‟s
need in developing their writing ability
This research used qualitative as the approach in analyzing student's
worksheets. Document analysis was used in collecting the data. The data of this
research was the Thai student's worksheets especially paragraphs of greeting card.
After analyzing the data, the researcher found some findings: 1) Student's ability
in writing from five aspects of writing in composing paragraph especially greeting
card was good level classification. Vocabulary, they good enough in vocabularies,
it means they had known well what are part of speech from the vocabularies.
Grammar, some of them confused in using syntactic pattern of grammar and
adjusting pronoun with the auxiliary verb. Mechanic, there were so many
mistakes in mechanic aspect especially punctuation and capitalization. Content,
they were able to compose descriptive text that relevant to the assigned topic.
Organization of ideas, most of them compose greeting card with complete
organization of ideas those were identification. This research found from 20
students, 3 students belonging to the excellent level, 10 students were belonging
to the good level, and 7 students were belonging to an adequate level
classification.
This research also found are many types of greeting card found in Thai
student's worksheet. Those were greeting card of congratulation card, birthday
card, anniversary card. Based on the finding, greeting card of was the most
dominant types of greeting card represented. It was represented from Thai
student's worksheets. The second birthday card. It was represented from Thai
student's worksheets. The third was congratulation card, and Mother‟s Day
