Abstract

Siti Aisha, 2021. Simon Says Game To Improve Students’ Speaking Skill At Second Grade of Mts Zainul Hasan Genggong.Thesis. English Education Departmen. Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty. State Institute of Islamic Studies of Jember. Advisor: Ninuk Indrayani, M.Pd. Academic Year 2020-2021. Keywords: Simon Says game, Speaking English has become one of cumpolsary subject for students since they were in the elementary school, but they do not master it after several years of learning. Neverthless, most of students faced difficulties in English learning especially in speaking. This might be a difficult problem to be solved since most of teachers used the traditional method such as students work sheet (LKS) in teaching and learning process especially in teaching speaking. Based on the preliminary study, it was found that many of students did not like English subject. There were many students got under the criteria of minimum score determined by the researcher. Besides, there were many of students who had no confident either in speaking. Therefore, this research want to know how Simon Says Game is able to improve students’ speaking skill at second grade of MTS Zainul Hasan Genggong. This research of this study was classified as Classroom Action Research (CAR) of Kemmis Tanggart (1998), that consisted of four stages. They are planning the action, implementing the action, observing and reflecting. There were one cycle in this research, in the cycle consisted three meetings included the test. The instrument used to collect data are observation, interview and test. The subject of this research were 26 students of 8K MTS Zainul Hasan. The criteria of success was equal to or the higher than 70% and the Standart Minimum Score (KKM) was 75. The result of this result showed that there was improvement of students’ speaking skill at second grade in MTS Zainul Hasan. It indicated that the scores and the mean in pre-tes to the post-test was increased.The percentage of students who got point 75 or more also improved. In the pre-tes, there were 9 students who got point 75 or more and in the post-test there were 19 of 26 students who got point 75 or more. The mean of the pre-test was 69 and the percentage was 35%. In post-test was 78 and the percentage was 73%. It means there was improvement 38%. Based on the data, the researcher concluded that the implementation of Simon Says Game in teaching speaking skill was successful. In addition, the mean score of speaking test also increased. The data in preliminary test showed that the mean score of students’ speaking were low, which was only 69. Furthermore, after applying Simon Says Game the mean score were improved, which was 78, and the percentage was 73%. That is why, the researcher did not need to apply the second cycle, because the first cycle was successful to improve students’ speaking at 8K classes of MTS Zainul Hasan
