Abstract

The phenomenon that has occurred recently with the many achievements by Indonesian students, especially in the academic field, such as the National or International Science Olympiad, does not necessarily balance children’s competencies. There is a setback
that is felt on emotional and spiritual intelligence, especially in terms of character. This problem makes the government formulate and implement character education as a solution to strengthen students’
morality. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature review that focuses on the development of the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual quotient. The results of this study indicate that character education needs to be integrated with IESQ so that it can overcome morality and character problems to balance three aspects of student intelligence, namely affective, cognitive and psychomotor.
