In English Language Teaching (ELT), grammar plays an important role in helping students communicate meaningfully and understand language in context. Through the implementation of English for Nusantara book, students were encouraged to learn grammar contextually rather than through memorization only. Thus, the research questions of this study were: how do the students understand the form of simple present tense in procedure text? and how do the students understand the form of imperative sentences based on it‟s usage? Furthermore, this study aimed to analyze students‟ understanding of imperative sentences and it‟s tenses in procedure text based on English for Nusantara book. This study used a descriptive qualitative research design. This study used the triangulation source by purposively sampling subject including fifteen of VIII E students, one of English teacher, and vice principal of curriculum. This research also used the triangulation data through observation, interview, and documentation. For the data alayzed used M. A Huberman and Saldana‟s, consisting of data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verifying. The findings of this research as follows: (1) In understanding the simple present tense, the high students were able to identify grammatical structures, verb forms, and contextual meanings appropriately. The medium students showed sufficient understanding with several grammatical inaccuracies. The low students still experienced difficulties in recognizing sentences patterns and verb usage in procedure text. (2) In understanding imperative sentences, the high students were able to distinguish insructions and prohibitions correctly and understand their functions contextually. The medium students showed adequate understanding although several misunderstandings were still found, while the low students experienced difficulties in interpreting imperative forms and identifying the contextual meanings. The findings indicated contextual learning and the use of procedure text from English for Nusantara book, supported by the teacher‟s effort in providing clear explanations, giving relevant examples, and guiding students throughout the learning process contributed positively to students‟ achievement in understanding grammatical features in procedure text.
