To solve the problem, the researcher had implemented retelling story through picture series to improve students’ speaking skill. The objective of this research was to describe the teaching and learning process of retelling story through picture series to improve students’ speaking skill. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) of Kemmis & Tanggart (1998). It consists of four stages: planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. There were three cycles in this research, each cycle consisted of two meetings. The stage of planning, the researcher and collaborator prepared the lesson plan based on the observation in the preliminary study, which refers to the problem found inside it. The next stage is implementing retelling the story through picture series. Previously, the researcher gave a role to students how to implement it in speaking, while the collaborator had a role as an observer. Then, observing was the process of recording and gathering data about any aspects or event that happened in the teaching and learning process during the implementation of the action. The last stage is reflecting. In this phase, the researcher analyzes by data comparing the score with criteria of success and the data or evidence exists. The Standard Minimum Score (KKM) was 65. The participants of this research were 14 students of X OTKP SMK Mabdaul Ma’arif. The data collection techniques were a combination of Reflection and quantitative methods (Preliminary Test and Post Test). Based on the data, from the pre test react the retelling story through picture series it is showed that the percentage of students speaking result is 28,5%. Then in cycle I, the researcher implemented retelling story through picture series but got the same result, which was 28,5%. After that, the researcher continued on cycle II and reflected on the result of cycle I and increased it to 65,7%. The results of cycle II show that the method has not been said successful., from comparing with the criteria of success. The researcher reflected back on the result of cycle II and took an approach, surprisingly in cycle III the percentage could increase with the result of 78,5%. In addition, the mean score of speaking test were increased also. The data in preliminary study showed that the mean score of students speaking skill were low, which was only 61,5. Furthermore, after implementation Retelling Story Through Picture Series the mean score were improved, which was 72.8.
