Falia Azizah, 2024: Polysemy Analysis of Song Lyrics in the Album “The Tortured
Poets Department” by Taylor Swift.

This research was about Polysemy Analysis of Song Lyrics in The Album
“The Tortured Poets Department” By Taylor Swift. The researcher conducted this
research because song is one of the most interesting media in learning process.
Apart from this aspect, many people use songs to express what they feel. It is often
found that they post the lyrics on social media. But sometimes, listeners are
confused to understand the message contained in a song because the lyrics contain
words that have multiple meaning or is called polysemy.
The research question as follow: 1) What types of polysemy used of song
lyrics in the album “The Tortured Poets Department” By Taylor Swift? 2) What is
the most dominant type of polysemy used of song lyrics in the album “The Tortured
Poets Department” By Taylor Swift? The aim of this research: 1) To find the types
of polysemy used of song lyrics in the album “The Tortured Poets Department” by
Taylor Swift. 2) To identify the most dominant type of polysemy used of song lyrics
in the album “The Tortured Poets Department” by Taylor Swift.
The researcher used a descriptive qualitative as the research design, there
are two data: song lyrics as primary data and secondary data includes books,
journals and article relevant to the research topic. To collect data, the researcher
used document study. in addition, this research used data analysis technique from
Miles, Huberman, And Saldana, which included: data condensation, data display,
and conclusion drawing/verification. Finally, data validity was clarified through
source triangulation technique.
The finding of this research as follow: 1) There is four types of polysemy
used of song lyrics in the album “The Tortured Poets Department” by Taylor Swift,
there are: Polysemy of verb, polysemy of noun, polysemy of adjective, and
polysemy of adverb. 2) The most dominant types of polysemy used of song lyrics
in the album “The Tortured Poets Department” by Taylor Swift is polysemy of verb,
consist ten data: Left, sent, come, take, read, die, kill, think, use, pick). The second
is polysemy of noun, consist seven data: Baby, man, boy, hand, head, dream, heart.
Third is polysemy of adverb, consist two data: Good and true. Last is polysemy of
adverb, the researcher just found one data: Back.
