Abstract

Nafisa Qurotul Aini, 2026. The Effect of Zep Quiz on Motivating Students to Learn English at the Eighth Grade of Junior High School. Keywords: Zep Quiz, Learning Motivation, English Learning Motivation, ARCS Motivation Model Learning motivation is an important factor in learning English, especially for junior high school students. Therefore, interactive learning media are needed to support students’ motivation in the learning process. In this study, Zep Quiz was chosen as a gamified learning medium because it provides interactive quiz activities, points, rankings, time limits, and instant feedback that may support students’ learning motivation. Accordingly, this study aimed to determine whether there was any significant effect of using Zep Quiz on the English learning motivation of eighthgrade students at MTs As-Syaahidien Sampang. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and posttest design was employed in this research. The participants were 20 eighth-grade students. Data were collected through an 18-item learning motivation questionnaire based on the ARCS Motivation Model, consisting of Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction indicators. The collected data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired sample t-test with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The results showed that the use of Zep Quiz had a significant effect on students’ English learning motivation. The paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. Furthermore, the mean score increased from 70.25 in the pre-test to 80.45 in the post-test. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. These findings indicate that Zep Quiz was effective in improving students' English learning motivation. Furthermore, Zep Quiz can be used as an alternative interactive learning medium to support students' learning motivation and assist teachers in creating a more motivating learning environment.
