The objective of this article is to describe about the response of women to the
radicalism movement in the Jember region. Continuing the findings of the Wahid
Foundation, the response was divided into three patterns namely (1) How was the
acceptance of Jember women in the radicalism movement? (2) What is the rejection of
Jember women towards movements that lead to radicalism? and (3) What is the neutral
attitude of Jember women towards radicalism movements.
Qualitative research in the form of phenomenology combined with gender
analysis is used to discuss these problems. The selection of the Jember region as a
location in this paper is based on the consideration that Jember is an area with an
emergency status of terrorism.
From the discussion the following conclusions are obtained: (1) The acceptance
of this movement is driven by the reason that hijrah and jihad are the solution for the rise
of Islam from all forms of oppression. For this reason, Muslims must gather in a
movement that aims to fight for the Islamic Khilafah. (2) the rejection of the radicalism
movement on the grounds, the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is a fixed price.
Therefore all activities and organizations that are contrary to the spirit of the teachings of
the Archipelago Islam must be rejected. (3) The neutral attitude shown by the people of
Jember is actually driven by reasons for not taking courage because they do not
understand the problem and are afraid of making wrong decisions.
