English is the important language to communicate when people go abroad. It is important to learn English because it is an international language which is used in many countries over the world and widely used in many sectors such as information, trade, education, etc. There are four English basic skills in English they were listening, speaking, reading and writing. These skills are closely related one to another. Reading is useful skill for students, for example students can get many important information and knowledge from what the student read.
The objective of this research was to describe the steps, the benefits, and the challenges of using spider diagram technique in reading comprehension at seventh grade of MTS Darul Hikmah Bondowoso.
The approach in this research is qualitative approach with case study design. Case study is a research method that aims to provide a complete and social reality and phenomena. It was conducted in MTS Darul Hikmah Bondowoso at seventh grade. The number of participan were 8 students. Purpose sampling technique was used to select 3 students as the subject of this research. The data was gathered by observation, interview, and document review.
The goal of the research is an individual understanding and its background completely. The result shown that benefits using Spider Diagram Technique those are: 1) Think quickly and visually, 2) Increasing focus and comprehension, 3) Spark Creativity, 4) Remember More. Beside the benefits of using Spider Diagram there are challenges in using Spider Diagram Technique: 1) Data Distortion, 2) Misinterpretation, 3) Time Investment, 4) Complexity for Beginners.
